“Vasarelli's is our New Favorite Italian Restaurant”

We were here for dinner, only booking 15min prior. We found the staff to be very attentive and really pleasant and thoroughly professional. Watching them as worked through service, it was clear to see they are at the top of their game. But then there is the food. We have just discovered our new favourite restaurant for Gnocchi. The “Gnocchi Pomodoro e Pesto” was soft and light, falling apart when placed in the mouth, but just firm enough to survive cooking and service. The delicious “Napolentana & basil pesto sauce” reminded us of great times spent being in Italy. The “Pappardelle al Ragu di Cinghiale” was one of the better pappardelle I have had. The texture of the pasta was just right and when combined with the beautifully soft and pleasantly flavoured Wild Boar Ragu, made for a wonderful combination that was thoroughly enjoyed. The only curious thing was the “Antipasto Italiano” platter that was described as “cured meats & pickled vegetables”. The platter was defiantly biased toward the cured meat side of the spectrum, with only a very small portion of pickled vegetables. Not so much a problem, but id was just not quite what we were expecting to see. Food, staff and atmosphere all 10/10.

“Italian feast ”

Great service and food - salmon pasta was yummy - granchio was nice - but last time we were there it came with a half crab shell and claw which was awesome!

“Beautiful Dinner”

We visited Vasarelli's with friends and our children for dinner on the weekend and were delighted we chose this restaurant. The friendly and attentive staff seated us on the verandah so the children could play on the lawn in front of us. The food and wine was wonderful and I can highly recommend the pork belly! Highly recommended.

“Tour Down Under stopover”

They had a stall in their gardens and we had yummy italian sausage in a roll, delicious, and great coffee. In the main street of McLaren Vale with the tour going past.

“Absolutely enjoyable evening”

Shared an entree of chilli prawns with pickled fennel and creme fraiche, just wonderful. Eye fillet of beef was a tad over cooked for medium rare but pork belly was unctuous and delicious. Gorgeous bottle of Vasarelli's Two Fathoms Shiraz to go with our meal.

“Top choice in the town”

Wonderful cuisine - Italian influences and lovely family wines. Private rooms/areas, or outside on the verandah allow private dining.

“Delicious authentic italian”

We took our intestate visitors to vasarellis for a lunch Wines were matched to to dishes which made selection a breeze We enjoyed fresh sour dough bread with a marinara dish that was Delicious fresh and a generous serve. The waiter was polite and Helpful with our choices. I rate this as an excellent experience In authentic Italian food

“Why not try something different”

I called in here on my way back from Victor Harbour for a light lunch and what a surprise. It was definitely restaurant quality.

“The Best! ”

This is without a doubt the best Italian Restaraunt this side of Positano’s Ristorante La Sponda. Wonderful food with exemplary service. Special mention for our waitress Carly who was warm and attentive with an excellent knowledge of italian cuisine and local wine history. This is an excellent family based restaurant every South Australian can be proud off.

“Lunch superb”

I had the truffle & fungi gnocchi and it was scrumptious pillows with a wonderful mushroom sauce. Service by Maria was great and Vasarelli shiraz topped off a great meal on the sunny verandah. A must when visiting this wonderful wine town

“Lazy Sundays”

An ever changing menu that is always on trend. Sensational. Wine fantastic and paired well. Great staff and surroundings. Will be back again and again.

“My kinda place”

Absolutely love love loveee this place! Each time I've been I've just had the best experience. Service is outstanding, followed by the AMAZING food. Love gnocchi? Best gnocchi I've ever had the pleasure of tasting. Love pork belly? Well you should be planning you're next visit to this restaurant. Can't fault it.

“Fresh tasty authentic Italian fare”

Loved the made from scratch linguine and gnocchi! We had seafood linguine and mushroom gnocchi. An older family member order scotch fillet which she found a bit rare for her taste...but did not want to mention it to the staff. We had a lovely waitress who must have noticed and asked about the steak which gave her the opportunity to mention that it was a bit rare for her taste without her raising the issue (which she would never do). They didn't just cook her steak more, they gave her a whole new plate with a well done steak. Brava Vasarelli. You gave us a gorgeous fresh meal plus went over and beyond for our older matriarch.

"Just Like Nonnas"

We took our Italian old school relatives here and its great. Authentic good serves great flavours excellent friendly homely service. I would highly recommend the Porchetta, great wine a must do in the vales.

40th birthday function

One of the best overall experiences for a function that we have ever had. The service, timing, food quality and value for money were outstanding. Every aspect of their service throughout our function was excellent which underlies the philosophy, love and passion that the team at Vasarelli have for their business. This restaurant is more than food it is a place where people really value family and the ability that they have to bring people together. On top of that the Vasarelli wines were outstanding. Definitely recommend this venue to anyone for a function or one off dining experience.

Fine Quality Italian

Looking for lunch, we entered the restored home to notice the polished wood and high (pressed metal) ceilings, intricate light fittings and white tablecloths. The calamari ordered was beautifully tender and served with a nice salad. The minestrone soup was also delicious served with crusty ciabatta. An extensive wine list is available as well as cellar door tastings of their wines. The coffee was rich and smooth (short and long espresso), making the perfect finish to our visit to McLaren Vale.

Wonderful Birthday Dinner

Went on recommendation for my birthday, was delicious, garlic bread was at its best, was a tough decision on picking a main, the veal or the pork, pork won and was not to disappoint - very tasty, cant wait to have it again. Wine was reasonable and for premium selection was a good price. Staff were fantastic and helpful. Only one downfall 2 items on the desert menu were unavailable. Being my birthday would of been nice to have one of my favourites for desert. Otherwise with mains everyone at the table enjoyed and are looking forward to returning, thanks guys and thanks for reading

Dined at Vasarelli's on Saturday night. Busy restaurant. Atmosphere warm and friendly. Chef moved around the tables to chat several times. Food was delicious. Good size serves. I had pork belly. Best I have ever eaten. Service was excellent. Water refills without asking. Knowledgable advice on the food an wine. I would eat there often if I was able, but I'm from WA.

Some of the best Italian food in South Australia. Have spent some time in Italy, it is very authentic. Pastas are all excellent as are most mains. Don't forget to have a Tiramisu..

We had the seafood pasta and the gnocci. All great quality and beatfully cooked with lots of flavours. All of this for a really decent price was a fantastic find to stumble across and be able to fit our group of 6 in over such a busy weekend. Lovely experience."

"Wonderful afternoon"

"Dear Vicky,

Just a short belated note to say thank you for accommodating our group and providing an entertaining and wonderful afternoon after we just wandered in off the street. Have told your "blonde" italian joke many times, even on the golf course where it totally destroyed the concentration of my playing partner for the rest of the round. Any way thank you again for your great hospitality and food.

Cheers
Marg Lawrie"

"We live locally and have visited Vasarelli's on many occasions, always enjoying the friendly cheerful staff, the relaxed homely atmosphere and of course the amazing food! We have never had a poor dish. Last night we dined with 2 other couples, one had never been before and they were blown away, as we new they would be. Even though the restaurant was fully booked, the staff, as always, found time for a chat, our food was served in a timely manner and as usual was superb. Keep up the great work guys, I thoroughly recommend this wonderful restaurant."

"Never disappoints me"

"I went to Vasarelli's, again, on saturday night for a friends birthday, and it was just absolutely fantastic, again. We had the whole room to our sevles and the food was just divine! I had the fish for the first time and it was the best fish I have ever had. The staff were again terrific, so bubbly and friendly. But I must say the best thing about Vasarelli's is that the staff and owners make you feel like your right at home, like your part of the family! you dont get that kind of service anywhere, I went for a little walk around the restaurant and I noticed the chef's in the kitchen having a laugh with one of the business owners and it sent an atmopshere through the entire restaurant, that is what customers want to see. I love this place, and I'll keep going back. Thank you Vasarelli's, thank you thank you. You guys are doing a fantastic job and everyone was over the moon!"

"Fantastic"

"I've been to Vasarelli's on numerous occasions and it just keeps getting better and better. I went there on easter monday because a friend invited me and when I found out it was Vasarelli's I had no hesitations. The service was great, food was great, great owners, mamma Vasarelli was a fantastic host, I've met the two owners on numerous occasions and are fantastic people to talk to, especially the young man, I think his name was Michael. We were sitting across from the 'Mile End' table, we were on the couch, and I cant believe they had the nerve to complain and cry about waiting, restaurants get busy and food gets held up, if you had any brains you would appreciate the fact that they booked you in, but when I realised you were from America and it all made sense. Don't go back simple, leave the place to the locals! Keep it up Vasarelli family!"

"Great Dinner"

"Went out for a simple meal with friends and were blown away at the quality of food and service we received. We started with the shared antipasto platter and then had crab pasta, rack of lamb, pork belly and chicken Kiev and we were all suitable impressed. Would definately return when visiting McLaren Vale."

"Lunch on a hot day in McLaren Vale"

"We had lunch here with friends on one hot Thursday in January. We were seated promptly but then had to ask for menus as they did not arrive. Once gained, service progressed well and we had a lovely waitress who is front of house and whose husband is the chef.

You can order 2 courses for $26.90 or 4 for $45.90 or al la carte. There are the usual breads and share platters but as we only wanted something light we decided on one course only. Two of us had the salt and pepper squid, which was delicious, tender and very tasty, piled on a lovely salad with a very lovely home made dressing which was on the Starter menu, but could be served as a main. It was a sizeable portion so very worthwhile at $23. One of us enjoyed the Papardelle allo Scoglio, which was full of mussels, prawn, squid, scallops and very tasty and good value at $27. Our last luncher had the Schiaffettoni al Doppio Ragu $22, which was large pasta tubes with a slow cooked ragu made with pork, veal and beef. This was the least liked of the mains as it was thought to lack full flavour.

We enjoyed a glass of Vasarelli bubbles as something light with lunch which was pleasant. Overall, a nice place to lunch and we would go again to sit on the verandah and enjoy the passing scenery."

"The whole experience was an absolute joy"

On Saturday night four friends and I dropped into Vasarelli's, without a booking but hoping for a vacancy. You were completely booked but without any display at all of inconvenience, your staff quickly put together a table for us. All staff we met were professional but friendly and obliging but I would particularly like to thank Luke on the bar and Bonnie, who looked after us.

Bonnie, in particular, really helped make our evening and I would like to thank her for her wonderful attention on a really busy night, and compliment you on the staff you employ. The whole experience was an absolute joy.

I have eaten at Vasarelli's before and it is my husband's favourite restaurant so it was a pleasure to introduce the other girls to your amazing food and service - I'm sure it will be a definite return visit for them in the future.

Many thanks
Vicki Jackson

"Brilliant. Had the prawns with black rice to start. The sauce had such a rich tomato flavour. Really different and amazing value. Hubby had the salad with prawn, chevre, asparagus and salmon. He loved it. I had duck pasta for main. Duck was so tender and tasty. Hubby had lamb cutlets. The gremolata was fresh and tasty. Lamb just melted. Wine was great too. Best meal we've had in a long time."

"Wow! Food was amazing! My husband and I live local and we were amazed with the best local produce! However the poor waitresses!!!! We watched the lovely girls, such a breath of fresh air! Anyway, from what seemed (from ears length!) be talked down from what appeared to be a pompous, arrogant chef. It made us feel so terrible that we gave the waitress a wealthy tip - just to see her put it in a tip bowl to be shared with the people that had obviously made her feel so unworthy. Well we will go back to vasarelli's, and hopefully we will see an improvement."

"Well done vasarelli's. The restaurant hosts a band, the last Sunday of every month. I took a party of 12 down to celebrate my wife's birthday and we had a ball, the food was out of this world and the service from the girls was outstanding. It was a massive day for the restaurant as the place was fully booked, but never disappointed. New years eve here we come. Can't wait and 2 1/2 Men were fab."

"Good food, service & atmosphere"

"Visited Vasarelli's on a blustery Wednesday night, quite a few people in for an evening meal which is always encouraging. We had seafood starters, prawn and wild rice and a squid salad. Followed by a mixed seafood pasta dish and a risotto. The food was beautifully cooked and presented. The restaurant itself is a charming old building with thick walls and high ceilings, the kitchen and bar are open plan but not intrusive and there is convenient parking behind the restaurant. Service was excellent, all the boxes ticked in terms of seating us at a nice table for two, offering 'specials', advising us on our wine selection and required gap between starters and main course."

“Beautiful Lunch on a cold day, great food and service. First class”

"Have been here a few times. Family visit whilst wine tasting, we stopped for there for a platter and wine, all excellent. Their own wine is the best and i recommend their Cab Sav. My husband and I have been a few times on our own,, their crab dish and Marinara are top dishes.

This time we asked for 30 min betewen serves and i am sure they timed it, excellent hot food, service faultless and we will continue to go, have nothing to fault"

Feeling at home (The Advertiser)

We were lucky enough to have a visit from renowned columnist Tim Lloyd in April of 2012 and his review for 'The Advertiser' really highlighted our restaurants uniqueness!

Here's a snippet from his full article which can be found here.

"THE permutations of winery and restaurant become broader as the wine industry changes to appeal to its customers.
Vasarelli's is a warm and hearty Italian bistro in McLaren Vale's main street. Only as you settle into the meal does it becomes clear this is also a winery cellar door.
The wine on the list is all Vasarelli's but it is at a modest premium to cellar door prices. Suddenly it dawns you are eating in a very credible bistro with good food at very good prices, and wine at prices you will never see again in Adelaide bistros, albeit limited to one winery.
We order a couple of glasses of sparkling, and the waitress points out that for $20 we may as well have the bottle.
This is a properly structured, pleasurable sparkling wine.
No wonder the place is full of locals. On a Friday night, most tables have four or more and the atmosphere is jolly.
The restaurant is a converted old stone house fronted by a veranda roomy enough for outside tables and with an elevated position looking down across the town.
Indoors, the rooms have all been expanded into each other, so there is a sense of the whole restaurant but a certain amount of intimacy, too."
